Hi. My name is Gene Webb,
I was born and raised here in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the Townsend, Tennessee area. At ten years old I started wood carving from scrap wood. My first carvings were tiny shoes, chickens, cows, and other farm animals. I would complete these carvings and then discard them as scrap. My uncle realized my talent and he would rescue these figures. Little did I know then that I would make wood carving my life-time career.
Now mountains and animals in this area inspire my carvings of deer, bear, mt. lions, snakes, wild hogs, and bobcats. My "way of life is wildlife;" however, I do carve cowboys, Indians, mountain men, dogs, totem poles, and a wide variety of subjects too numerous to mention.
I enter my wood carvings in competitions. I have won Blue Ribbons in every competition I have entered, and have won Best of Show many times, plus People''s Choice awards.
Nearly fifteen years ago I started teaching others wood carving. I teach all levels of carving. Several of my students have won Blue Ribbons and People''s Choice awards. I am very proud to call them my students.
I have been featured on t.v. and also made wood carvings for the "Christy" t.v. series. featured in Chip Chats wood carving magazine, and in several newspaper articles. I have produced 15 woodcarving classes on DVD.
My family and I still live in the foot hills of the Great Smoky Mountains. You are welcome to come visit my shop, and while here check out my wood carving classes. Maybe take a class or two. Make sure you visit our beautiful Smoky Mountains. Meanwhile, browse my web site and see some of the things I have to offer. If you have any questions please ask. I''ll do my best to answer them.

Optima Burning Pen- Course Hair Tip - med skew This tip is used to make hair on your caricature or mammal carvings, instead of using a tear-drop shaped dremel bit, or micro-V hand gouge. Obviously, you may still need these other tools for wider furrows, but this pen will make short work of the medium to finer sized hairs on your carvings (up to 1mm wide). This tip is only available in heavy duty style, as its design requires a thicker tip wire. It can also be used to do fine hair/feather work, where you can adjust the width and depth of a line by just pressing harder (rather than increasing your heat settings). As this pen tip has a limited "choke point" in it, it may tend to get more heat to the pen body. Because this tip relies on the wire diameter used, it is not available in our fine style of pens ph11med, skew
